Producer Nathan Marcus tapped me to lens this cross branded piece starring Presley Gerber for Tod’s and Paper Magazine. It was my first opportunity to work with the amazing Nina Meredith. We captured using a single Red DSMC2 Gemini camera and a combination of Zeiss Super Speed Primes and an Angenieux 25-250 Zoom lens. The long zooms were achieved with a Preston MicroForce. This film was shot with almost entirely available light, relying on a couple of LED instruments for fill at select times.
I was incredibly impressed with the Gemini for short subject, run-and-gun style production. The native 3200 ISO meant that I never had to worry about adding light - only about taking it away. In fact, the closet/jacket scene was keyed with a 1/4” crack in the door and the light in the room was much darker to the naked eye than to the Gemini.
Color was handled by Alex Durie at LightIron, NY. We opted for a warm, low-contrast look that I think lends a sense of attainable luxury to an otherwise unlit, urban scene.
